Wow, it's been a while since I've blogged...guess it's time to stretch the fingers a bit...to anyone who is wondering...the surgery is a major success...I passed my 3 year surgiversary January 24, 2014 and as of two days ago, I weighed less than I have ever weighed along this journey...133.6. So, yes, the surgery works. I have been off the bike since last fall with the exception of one ride in January this year on a warmer day where my husband and I couldn't stand being inside any more and took the plunge and went for it. There was snow on the ground but the sun was shining and it was a short ride but it was wonderful.
Anyway, if you are considering the vertical sleeve gastrectomy, go for it. It changed my life for the better, and it will yours too. Check your doctor's credentials, but by all means, go for it if it feels right!
Namaste!
I've heard about these gastrectomy sleeves, but I honestly have no idea what they are. I've been curious to know more about them, and this helped me understand what their purpose is a lot more. It's amazing to live in a time of amazing techonlogy to help us have better lives.

To be quite honest, the hardest part of the surgery was the mental part of it. I truly missed food, but it was always short lived. I actually had a breakdown over hummus one day. (It's one of my favorite foods.) So, the surgery prevents you from eating, fixes the physical part of your obesity, but there it doesn't fix the mental part of it....so that is what I would have to say has been the hardest part. I would recommend either a talk therapy or just a reminder that the surgery fixes the physical part of the obesity but not the emotional part and in the beginning, it can be difficult coping with the fact that you cannot eat much food. Hope this helps!
Deletethank-you so much for this blog. I so wanted to see something from someone who was 2-3 years out, and this blog provided that.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that you found some guidance from my blog. That was my whole intention. Actually in a week, I will be 4 years out. Hard to believe, but I'm maintaining a 153 pound weight loss...I started out at 280 (I'm 5' 6") and am now 127 and hover between 125-135. The surgery definitely works! :)
