Ok, so the butt pain isn't resolved. I haven't exactly eased back into cycling, so I guess it's to be expected. What is continuing to plague me is the numbness in my toes. It's worse on the right side than the left. When I get off the seat and stand up for a bit, it goes away.
I purchased a new seat yesterday, because the one that came with it was definitely too narrow. I'm will be experimenting with foot positioning, shoes, and the pressure in my tushie (are padded shorts really a good idea?)
Anyway, I am definitely sore this morning and think I need to cut back on mileage till I get these issues resolved. Daily rides are probably fine as long as they aren't over 10 miles until I'm accustomed. Cycling is definitely my passion however, and I WILL figure this out!

New Year 2018
So a lot has happened in three years. On January 24th, I will celebrate my Seven Year Surgiversary of having a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy....
-
It's hard to believe that in less than a week it will be 4 years since I embarked upon an epic journey to change my life for the better....

I am 18 months out from Gastric Sleeve surgery, and have surpassed my goal of weighing 150 pounds by 10 pounds. This morning I weig...
I found this forum---maybe some useful information for you? http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=12981
ReplyDeleteAlso, you can buy the silicone things that stretch your toes (Yoga Toes are the ones I have--but you can find less expensive ones). I LOVE these things after a ride/walk/run. They make your feet feel so much better and loosen up the muscles and ligaments.
As for the butt pain---where exactly does it hurt (not to get all TMI)? Depending on where the pain is will determine what you can do to alleviate it. (TMI coming) The pain I get is just on the inside of my butt cheeks where they meet my thighs. It's basically a pain that I have to just work through because it's going to happen no matter what kind of seat I have--it's the muscles not being used to the pressure of the seat.
Wow that's crazy...I pulled up that exact page today in my searching for answers! Thanks...it is a good one with good suggestions.
ReplyDeleteOK, the pain in my butt is directly on my sit bones. When I push, that is where the pain is. So could this still be muscular? I bought a new, wider seat (155mm)made for endurance riding. So it's not heavily padded. I will say that after I've sat on it for a minute or two, the pain isn't so slicing, but still painful. I really think it may have a lot to do with the fact that I'm so new to the bike, the seat type, the distance and time I'm now spending on it. I am hoping that it gets better over time. I am going to try to keep my miles down to a reasonable amount till I'm accustomed and see if I build up. My other big concern in the numbness, which seems to be related to the pressure in my sit area...????
If your seat is tiltable, try tilting it so the nose is up a little more (not much because you'll end up with pain in *ahem* another area, if ya know what I mean). This could alleviate a little of the pressure when you're sitting. I'm assuming if the pain is that much, it's more nerve related than muscle, which won't be alleviated by getting accustomed. Another option is to see if you can find a gel insert for your bike seat (or see if you can trade it in for one with gel inserts). They give you a little more cushion so there's not as much pressure.
